Rennsteig Museum
Rennsteig Museum
Sung about, shrouded in legend, explored and, above all, hiked, the Rennsteig has formed the backbone of the Thuringian Forest for centuries. If you want to get to know the 169 km long, oldest long-distance hiking trail in Germany in all its facets, a visit to the Rennsteig Museum in Neustadt is a must. The exhibition in the town's tourist information center (Rennsteigininformation) provides information about famous personalities along the trail, illuminates the flora and fauna of the surrounding area with numerous illustrative objects and reveals the significance of the trail for people from near and far through the display of numerous poems, hiking sayings and legends. The local history of Neuhaus itself is also closely interwoven with this, which can be traced in an integrated sub-exhibition and, among other things, deals with the regional significance of the tinder fungus.
