Richter Villa
Richter Villa
The fairytale castle-like, large house on Schwarzburger Chaussee was named after its builder, the factory owner Friedrich Adolf Richter. With the foundation of a pharmaceutical company, which also produced sweets, music machines and toys under the trademark "Anker", Richter established an important branch of industry in Rudolstadt in the last century. Among the most famous products were the anchor stones, invented by the ingenious brothers Otto and Gustav Lilienthal, who later achieved world fame as aviation pioneers. The anchor blocks were sold all over the world for several decades and are now experiencing a renaissance thanks to the resumption of production by Ankerstein GmbH.
In 1921, Alfred Eversbusch became the main shareholder of the anchor factory in Rudolstadt and moved into the Richter villa around this time. In 1953, the factory owner was forcibly expropriated and the anchor factory was transformed into the "VEB Ankerwerk Rudolstadt".
After German reunification, Eversbusch's heirs tried to reclaim the Richter villa by transferring it back. However, due to its use as a kindergarten, this was not possible. After the use as a kindergarten, for quite a few years the Playhouse Association Richter Villa e. V., which offered unique, pedagogically valuable and creative play opportunities. In 2009, however, the city planned to sell the house and put it to commercial use. In 2011, some of the heirs from the old federal states exercised their right of first refusal and bought the villa from the city.
