Pipe has achieved outstanding importance in many respects in its almost 1200-year history, not least due to its convenient location.

In the Middle Ages, the village was located on the important trade route that led from Mainfranken via Mellrichstadt, Jüchsen at the "Salzfurt", Einhausen at the "Werrafurt", over the "Zeller-Leube" into the Thuringian Forest.

The municipality of Rohr has one of the most interesting fortified churches in Thuringia, St. Michael's Church. It was built as a Benedictine monastery church between 815 and 820. When the monastery ceased to exist around 900, it continued to serve as the palatine church of the royal palace, which existed until the beginning of the 11th century. It was only after the Reformation that St. Michael's Church became a village church, as it is still today. Despite the structural changes, the nave with its crypt is the only monumental building in eastern Germany that largely dates back to the Carolingian period. This means that the small village of Rohr in Thuringia has an architectural and historical treasure of national and international importance.

Also of interest is a Benedictine nunnery (1150). However, in today's "Kloster Rohr" district, there are still early Gothic monastery complex Only the remains of the former monastery wall and the building of St. John's Church can still be seen. Among the treasures of the village center are many houses in the Henneberg half-timbered style, which is characterized by curved timbers and double struts.
