The rose garden, born out of the civic commitment of the Nordhausen „Verein Deutscher Rosenfreunde“, was opened in 1927. In 1978, the striking copper rose in its center was created by employees of Schachtbau. In September 2015, the fountain was put back into operation by the city of Nordhausen after extensive renovation work on the initiative of the Lions Club, which called for a fundraising marathon.

Today, the rose garden - located right next to the Südharz-Klinikum - attracts around 12,000 visitors a year, who can enjoy 3,500 roses in over 100 different varieties.
