Roßleben-Wiehe OT Roßleben

Roßleben is a district of the town Roßleben-Wiehe.

Roßleben is located in the valley of the River Unstrut, on the ridge of the Hohe Schrecke, a valuable, unspoiled forest area. The town is well over 1,100 years old and has been documented as "Rostenleba" since around 880. In the 12th century. In 1140, the Augustinian monastery of St. Peter and St. Paul with St. Andrew's Church was founded, which was later converted into a Cistercian monastery. Monastic life came to an end with the Reformation. Since the 16th century, the former convent has been used as a school, and to this day the venerable walls house an independent grammar school. This makes Klosterschule Roßleben one of the oldest grammar schools in Germany. The mining history of the town began at the start of the 20th century with the sinking of the potash shaft.

The Unstruttal tourist information office, located in Wiehe at the town park, is open to all questions and requests from guests. For hikers, cyclists and nature lovers, Roßleben offers rewarding destinations thanks to its scenic location. For example, the town is connected to the supra-regional Unstrut cycle path, which runs along the river from its source to its mouth.
