Ruhla
Ruhla
In the middle of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park, between the Wartburg near Eisenach and the 916 m high Inselsberg, lies the tranquil mountain town of Ruhla. The state-recognized resort is nestled in a narrow mountain valley, which caused people to build their houses high up on the mountain slopes early on. The old half-timbered houses and villas have a rustic and unspoiled appearance. Extensive forests start directly at the edge of the town and invite to relaxing hikes. The most famous Thuringian high-altitude hiking trail, the 169 km long Rennsteig, passes Ruhla in a short distance.
Other attractive routes lead to the most beautiful sights of the city: model park "mini-a-thür", local and tobacco pipe museum, clock museum u. -schauwerkstatt, castle ruins Scharfenburg, Carl Alexander Tower, poet grove, angle church St. Concordia, industrial route Ruhla or the Griffinwarte "Falconry on the Rennsteig". Guests can cool off on hot summer days at the Ruhla forest pool with Kneipp facility and the Thal outdoor pool. Further sporting activities are offered by the tennis center and the Kneipp facility in the district of Thal.
Ruhla is also a worthwhile destination in winter. The main area for cross-country skiing is located at the "Alte Ruhl" with an illuminated cross-country ski trail and ski jumps. A toboggan run at the "Schützenhaus" brings fun for the whole family. The Rennsteig area around Ruhla is groomed as a winter hiking trail and is also available for cross-country skiers.
