Between Themar and MeinigenThe ruins of Osterburg Castle lie on a hill above the village of Henfstädt. The square main tower, the circular wall ring, the wall tower, moat and rampart are still preserved today. The lords of Osterburg Castle are recorded from 1187, the Burgmänner der Counts of Henneberg were. The castle belonged to their lines throughout its existence. They is considered to be the oldest administrative center of the Henneberg. The last owners were the Counts of Hanstein.
According to tradition ancient wine in the cellar vaults of the castlewhich counts so many years that the wine stone forms a natural barrel. The wood and maturation of the barrels are said to be fossilized.
