Schleizer triangle

Since June 10, 1923, Germany's oldest natural race track, the "Schleizer Dreieck", has been home to all the big names on two, three or four wheels. It is one of the rare racetracks on which drivers complete their laps in an anti-clockwise direction on an average track width of approx. 10 meters.

Until May 1988, the three corner bends - Haarnadelkurve, Heinrichsruher Kurve and Waldkurve - embodied the 7.6 km long Schleizer Dreieck with its 22 bends. However, safety for racing drivers and spectators characterized the repeated conversion of the track. In 1988, the hairpin bend in Schleiz was replaced by a shortcut in front of the village in order to defuse the course of the track with a chicane. However, the two southern corners of the circuit continued to run through residential areas.

Since July 2004, the original length of the Schleiz triangle has been reduced by half, and the Wald and Heinrichsruher bends have been removed after the 1.3-kilometer-long "crossover" through the Schleiz-Süd industrial estate was completed.

Even today, the "Schleizer Dreieck" is known beyond the region. Top-class racing events such as the International German Motorcycle Championship, world and European championship races for motorcycles and sidecars, classic events for historic racing, the Schleizer Dreieck Jedermann, vintage and traditional meetings for tractors and IFA vehicles, as well as driver safety training for various motor vehicles take place here every year.

Germany's oldest natural racetrack celebrates its 100th birthday!

To mark this unique anniversary, the town of Schleiz will pay tribute to ten decades of racing history. From June 9 to June 18, 2023, top-class events will be held at the Schleizer Dreieck.
