Osterstein Castle is the former seat of power of the princes of the younger Reuss line with a Romanesque tower, remains of the old castle complex and an imposing bridge. Complemented by buildings from the 1960s, fragments of the baroque building ensemble and castle garden still remain. Over the centuries, the castle has changed its appearance through lively building activity. During the Second World War, it fell victim to Anglo-American bombs and the subsequent demolition of the ruins in 1962. Renovation work on the preserved buildings will continue until 2023. From the castle, which is located on the Hainberg, you have a wonderful view over the city of Gera. The castle complex is located in the nature reserve - the Gera city forest. The following buildings have been preserved: Terrace café, residential building, coach house, gatehouse, new guardhouse and the renaturalized castle garden.
