Bertholdsburg Castle Gardens
Castle garden with fountain house in Schleusingen
From the High Middle Ages, the area to the west of the castle was probably used as a tournament ground. A palace garden was laid out here in 1563/65 when the palace was converted into a Renaissance palace. The octagonal roofed fountain house in the north-east corner with round pillars and domed rectangular windows probably also dates from this time. The fountain house was given its tiled tent roof around 1840.
In the 1950s, the entire area of the castle garden was raised by 1.50 meters.
