Castle Hotel Elgersburg
Castle Hotel Elgersburg
Elgersburg Castle was first mentioned in a deed of gift from 1139. The fortification, built on a 30-metre-high hill, was probably constructed in the 10th century. It was primarily used as a protective and defensive fortress to secure the trade routes running through Thuringia at the time. Today, Elgersburg Castle is considered one of the most beautiful castles in Thuringia thanks to numerous renovations. Guests can hire rooms for events or take guided tours including a trip to the castle dungeon. In summer, numerous events take place in the romantic castle courtyard.
