Kochberg Castle Park
Kochberg Castle Park
Kochberg Castle became famous through Goethe's visits to the country estate of Charlotte von Stein, lady-in-waiting to Duchess Anna Amalia in Weimar. Built around 1600, the moated castle was altered several times up until the 19th century. In the first third of the 19th century, under the direction of Charlotte's son Carl von Stein, the transformation of the „Great Garden“ to the north of the palace into a landscape park in the classical-romantic style began, which was essentially completed around 1840. Embedded in a charming landscape, the park attracts visitors with its magnificent trees, the „Flower Theater“, an extraordinary flower garden with flower steps and ornamental flowerbeds as well as original water features, including a sandstone channel through which the water flows from the bathing pond to the fountain in front of the Liebhabertheater. Events and performances take place regularly in the Liebhabertheater.
