Cyrt Schüze was shot here in 1640. It is not known whether he was a ranger on the Reckenbühl or a messenger. During the Thirty Years' War, this area was teeming with murderous scum.
In 1632, the Reckenbühl was attacked by marauding mercenaries with the aim of stealing horses. However, the attack failed because the inhabitants put up a fierce resistance. One was shot dead, another died later in Mihla.
On the back of the cross is the inscription „Jvst Michael Schüze". The year 1655 is said to have been visible earlier (perhaps dedicated to the deceased by a relative).
