The Thuringian Forest Association, Bock and Teich section, was founded in Wallendorf in 1887 and helped to develop tourism by setting up hiking trails and viewpoints.

The association's shelter, known as Petersburg, was considered a landmark of the municipality of Wallendorf around 1900 and was rebuilt in 2019.
