Schwarza is a municipality in the district of Schmalkalden-Meiningen in Thuringia. It belongs to the Administrative community Dolmar-Salzbrückewhich has its headquarters in Schwarza. Schwarza has around 1000 inhabitants and is located on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest. The municipality consists of the districts of Schwarza, Schwarza-Rhoda and Schwarza-Siedlung. The history of Schwarza dates back to the Middle Ages, when a castle and a monastery were built here. Today, Schwarza is primarily a Resort with many hiking and cycling trails, a Outdoor pool and a Camping site. The sights include the St. Mary's Church, the Museum of local history and the Ruins of Schwarza Castle.
