Black moor
Black moor
The Schwarze Moor is located near the border triangle of Bavaria, Hesse and Thuringia and is part of the Europe-wide NATURA 2000 network of protected areas. The raised bog is home to a large number of rare animal and plant species.
As a core zone in the UNESCO Rhön Biosphere Reserve, it is a showcase for nature and is one of the most important moors in Central Europe.
The moor nature trail
Visitors can explore this endangered habitat on an approximately 2.2 km long boardwalk. Along the boardwalk, 23 information boards provide interesting facts about the Black Moor. At the end of the path, a viewing tower offers a panoramic view.
A visit for the whole family
Ten panels with a dandelion motif have been installed to make the moor an experience for the whole family. Children can learn interesting facts about the moor in a child-friendly way.
And if you want to know what the moor feels like, you can wade through an artificial moor pool. The foot washing facility is shut down in the fall/winter.
