Shakespeare memorial Weimar
Shakespeare memorial Weimar
The "third German classic": William Shakespeare in Weimar. Goethe learned the art of poetry from his English role model. The monument by Berliner Otto Lessing was unveiled in the park on the Ilm in 1904. Incidentally, it is the only one of Shakespeare in Germany. The monument depicts the poet near the artificial ruin in the garb of Elizabethan times, with a scroll in his right hand and a rose in his left. A skull with a jester's cap, laurel wreath, sword and jester's cot lie at his feet.
