Sieve house in the Hummelhain
Sieve house in the Hummelhain
The small Siebshaus is located in the middle of the forest between Hummelshain and Trockenborn above the Leubengrund. It is probably the oldest and most beautiful hunting lodge in the former ducal hunting grounds. The listed building is looked after, maintained and repaired by the Hummelshain Castle Association.
The more than 500-year-old log cabin in the middle of the forest was last completely rebuilt by Duke Ernst II around 1900 and adapted to the needs of the hunting party around the sovereign. At the time, it was probably mainly used as an arsenal for storing hunting equipment and as a central meeting place before and after the hunt.
The structural feature of the Siebshaus is the half-timbered corpus on top of the first floor. It has a significant overhang on all sides and ends with a wooden balcony on one side.
Today, the little house in the middle of the forest is unfortunately only open on special occasions (Open Monument Day).
