In 1760, the Thuringian manufacturer Georg Heinrich Macheleid (1723-1801) founded a porcelain factory in Sitzendorf, which was moved to Volkstedt in 1762. It was not until 1850 that the Sitzendorf innkeeper Wilhelm Liebmann founded a new porcelain factory. The white gold is still produced here in the traditional way today. Visitors can get a vivid picture of porcelain production on a tour.
