Sonneberg

The traditional toy town Sonneberg is located on the southern slope of the Thuringian Forest. The abundance of wood in the forests and the inventiveness of the population enabled the development of a highly skilled toy industry, through which the town gained world fame in the 19th and 20th centuries. Sonneberg toy companies produced wooden toys, dolls and play animals and sold them to many countries around the world. Production sites, trading houses and industrial schools from this period can be explored independently on the "Historical Mile" or on one of the exciting adventure tours. Today, the toy companies stand for high quality and modern design and offer visitors an atmospheric shopping experience. During a stroll through town, there is still much to discover on the subject of "toys", e.g. in the German Toy Museum, at the "Teddy Stuffing" or on the "Sonneberg Play Mile".

The varied landscape is part of the Thuringian Forest Nature Park and invites you to go hiking or cycling in summer and cross-country skiing or tobogganing in winter - including fantastic views of the Thuringian and Franconian regions.
