Sophienkreuz - White Cross
Sophienkreuz - White Cross
A popular destination with a beautiful view of the city of Greiz.
375 m above sea level on the Hirschstein, visible from afar, is the "St. Sophia's Cross", but is commonly known as the "White Cross".
Prince Heinrich XX Reuss Aelterer Linie (1794-1859), who reigned at the time, had it erected in 1838 in memory of his first wife, Princess Sophie von Löwenstein-Wertheim (1809-1838), who died young. It was knocked down several times by the weather, but was rebuilt. It has been a listed building since 1952.
