Spechtsbrunn
Spechtsbrunn
Spechtsbrunn is located directly on the legendary Rennsteig, on the border to the Free State of Bavaria.
Three inns invite you to stop and spend the night. The private accommodations also always offer a warm welcome to Rennsteig hikers! St. Matthew's Church from 1746, which was rededicated last year after many years of restoration, should be worth a visit.
Not far from the village, on the "Kalten Küche", is the nature park information center with the tourist information. A snack bar here provides the necessary energy boost to the hiking destination. A good network of hiking and skiing trails, also off the Rennsteig, offers nature experiences in a region rich in history in Spechtsbrunn. Spechtsbrunn is also very popular with cyclists.
The nature park route Thuringian Forest leads through the village. Please note our special offers for the route and the "Green Belt".
Enjoy magnificent views at the "Thüringenblick" to the Altvaterturm on the Wetzstein, to Gräfenthal, to the Ochsenkopf, to the Holzland area, to the Thuringian Slate Mountains, to the Franconian Forest and to the Thuringian Forest. We recommend that you park your car in the parking areas at the Rote Berg near Spechtsbrunn and walk about another 200 m from there. Spechtsbrunn is a district of the city of Sonneberg.
