There is a large playground in the middle of Nordhausen's extensive city park. The area was completely redesigned just a few years ago. There is plenty of equipment for climbing, swinging and balancing, a ropeway, trampolines, a wobbly bridge and a separate play area for younger children with smaller equipment. The adventure playground is very varied, so that different age groups can be active and let off steam.

Large deciduous trees around the playground provide pleasant shade in summer. The Zorge, which flows directly alongside the city park, also refreshes the air. The city park also invites families to take a long walk - to the animal enclosures with red and fallow deer, donkeys, goats and sheep in the petting zoo and to the gondola pond. In the warmer months, visitors can hire rowing boats and enjoy a relaxing trip across the lake past the water fountain. Refreshments are available in the bistro. The Südharzer Dampfloksteig quality hiking trail also leads directly through the city park and a cycle path into the Harz Mountains runs alongside the park. The city park is easily accessible not only on foot and by car, but also by streetcar and the Harz narrow-gauge railroad. 

Nordhausen's city park can look back on a long history. Around 1880, the city council began to create a park on the banks of the Zorge. Trees and shrubs were planted, circular paths and ponds created and fountains installed. Since the mid-1990s, the city has been ecologically redesigning the park - stone walls and piles of dead wood provide habitats for lizards, newts, toads and many other small creatures, and a diverse fish population has developed in two ponds. The Nordhausen City Park is therefore a worthwhile destination for nature lovers.
