St. Bernhard
St. Bernhard
St. Bernharda small village between Dingsleben and Beinerstadt, first mentioned in a document in 956, is located around 7 kilometers southwest of the town of Themar. With an average altitude of 487 meters above sea level, we are situated quite high compared to the surrounding area, on a shell limestone plateau. This is why a fresh breeze often blows here, providing the approx. 270 inhabitants with clean air.
For nature lovers, St. Bernhard not only has its beautiful surroundings to offer, but also a Pine tree over 200 years old can be admired from the Galgenhöhe. From here, the viewer can see far into the Thuringian countryside or the Rhön on a clear day.
The current church was built between 1842 and 1844 on the site of a chapel, which was the starting point for settlement in Christian times. It is a gem that the people of St. Bernhard are particularly proud of.
The village is primarily characterized by agriculture. The "Goldene Ähre" Beinerstadt agricultural cooperative is an employer for several residents of the municipality.
The clubs organize festivals in the village, such as the sports festival, bakery festival, children's festival and the Celtic sports festival. The Celtic adventure trail runs through the village, a supra-regional hiking trail that leads from Dingsleben via Galgenhöhe to Beinerstadt, Wachenbrunn and Widderstatt.
