St. Elisabeth Church Eisenach
St. Elisabeth Church Eisenach
One of the impressive features of the building is the building material: light shell limestone gives the Elisabeth Church, which was consecrated in 1888 in honor of Saint Elisabeth, a very unusual appearance. The only Catholic church in the city follows the architectural style of the Elisabeth Church in Marburg. When you enter the church, the first thing you notice is the warm and calm color scheme. The golden ochre of the chancel is also taken up more brightly in the nave as a symbol of the divine. The sacrament chapel - the holiest place - is decorated in medieval ox red, as is the niche in which the carved figure of St. Elizabeth has stood since 1931. The modern windows in the choir room focus on the resurrection. In front of the church is a statue of Elisabeth, which depicts her descending from Wartburg Castle to the poor. Take away your own impressions of a church that always touches many visitors in a very special way.
