St. Mary's Church (Kleinurleben)
St. Mary's Church (Kleinurleben)
The village is dominated by the mountain church standing on a hill. St. Mary or Beatae Mariae Virginis was coined. It was richly decorated by the von Berlepsch family. These include several gravestones and family portraits as well as portraits of Martin Luther and Philipp Melanchthon from the workshop of Lucas Cranach the Younger. The church also serves as a place of worship for the people of Großurleben, as there is no church in their village. The parish of Urleben belongs to the parish of Großvargula in the Mühlhausen church district of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany.
