St. Martin's Church Witterda
St. Martin's Church Witterda
The listed hall church "St. Martin", consecrated over 300 years ago, is one of the few Catholic churches in the Thuringian Basin and rises up in front of the Fahner Heights, visible from afar as a real landmark of the village.
The organ is also a rarity. It dates from the middle of the 19th century and is one of the surviving instruments made by the regional organ builder Hesse.
After the organ was extensively restored and reconstructed between 2013 and 2015, it now not only accompanies the regular church services and festivals, but also choir and organ concerts with a sound that has probably not been heard for 100 years.
Tip:
Anyone who would like to visit the splendidly furnished church with its baroque high altar and no less striking ceiling painting outside of events can simply call the on-site telephone number.
