St. Petri-Pauli Church
St. Petri-Pauli Church
St. Petri-Pauli Church, where Martin Luther was baptized on 11 November 1483 just a few steps from his birthplace in Eisleben, is now equipped with a special feature: a baptismal fountain in the floor of the church enables baptism by immersion.
Since 2012, the modern design of the reformer's baptistery has focused on the theme of baptism, making it more than just an authentic Luther site. Completed in 1513, the three-aisled church building has undergone several transformations over the centuries. In addition to the modern circular baptismal font as a central design element, the baptismal font, which contains remnants of Luther's baptismal font at the time, also allows baptism by pouring over.
Individual visitors and groups from all over the world and of all ages come to the Baptism Center to celebrate services and baptisms, attend workshops and seminars and engage in conversation about baptism. At the same time, the Petri-Pauli Church is used for church services, devotions, concerts, exhibitions and other events.
