St. Petri and Pauli Church Sömmerda

St. Petri and Pauli Church in the district town of Sömmerda was consecrated on September 09, 1685.

It is at least the third building on the same site. A church burnt down in 1398 was rebuilt in 1407, but had to be demolished again after the Thirty Years' War due to dilapidation. The tower was already removed in 1617. Its new construction was not completed until 1716. After a complex renovation of the roof and the belfry in 2017, three new bronze bells were cast in 2018 and consecrated on 1 Advent of the same year.

The first organ in St. Peter's Church, which was completed in 1705 by Johann Georg Krippendorf, was repaired and rebuilt by Johann Michael Hesse in 1831. Parts of this organ were reused in the new building in 1888/89 by the organ builder Friedrich Wilhelm Böttcher from Sömmerda. The organ was last thoroughly repaired in 1957 by Gerhard Kirchner from Weimar and its sound slightly altered.

St. Petri and Pauli Church is part of the Evangelical Church District of Eisleben-Sömmerda. Church services are held weekly from Eternity Sunday to the Easter Vigil. A monthly children's service is also offered.
