Since September 2005, the town and district library, together with the historical-technical museum, has been located in the extensively renovated Dreyse-Haus at Weißenseer Straße 15. 400 m² of space provides sufficient room for around 49,000 media (including books, DVDs, CDs, audio books, magazines, e-media, console games and consoles), but also for regular book readings, concerts, lectures, literary-musical events and much more. The library in the Dreyse-Haus with its cozy reading café also offers an absolute feel-good atmosphere as a meeting place in the middle of the town of Sömmerda.

The children's library is located in the building of the student leisure center. Here, children of pre-school age up to approx. 14 years will find what they are looking for in the stock of over 7,000 media.
