Town church St. Mary Ronneburg
Town church St. Mary Ronneburg
The late Gothic square church tower with its eight-sided crown is a landmark of the town.
St. Mary's Church is located in the town center on the church square. There is no concrete information about the origins of St. Mary's Church, but it is certain that it must have existed as early as 1237. The church fell victim to a major fire in 1665. The church was largely rebuilt in 1666. 1879 saw the installation of the Charging guest organ.
In the recent past (1987-1989), the upper part of the church tower was demolished and rebuilt. The approx. 30 m high, late Gothic quadrangular Church tower with its eight-sided crown has become a landmark of the city. In 1992/93 the valuable Ladegast organ was extensively restored. A few years later, the entire renovation of the church, the church roof and the renewal of the entire church square took place. Concerts in the Church of St. Mary enjoy very widespread popularity.
