Steigerwald Stadium Erfurt
Steigerwald Stadium Erfurt
Goals are cheered and athletes celebrated in Erfurt's Steigerwaldstadion. As the host of many national and international sporting events, such as the German Athletics Championships in 2007 or the U23 European Athletics Championships in 2005, the stadium has established itself as an important sports venue in the state capital.
The opening match of the U17 European Football Championship in 2009 was also played in the Steigerwaldstadion - the home ground of the traditional club FC Rot-Weiß.
Since fall 2016, Erfurt's traditional Steigerwaldstadion has been a multifunctional arena - making it one of the most modern event and conference venues in Central Germany. While the stadium itself continues to be used primarily for sporting events and open-air concerts, the newly constructed building in the eastern section is now used for conferences, congresses and small trade fairs. The 1,550 square meter Parksaal - the heart of the building - lends it a very special charm. This is because it combines a playing field on one side with Erfurt's beautiful Südpark on the other. On the upper floor there are two further conference rooms and six interconnecting day boxes. These are arranged in such a way that the green pitch and the historic west stand catch the eye of every visitor.
