Steinach
Steinach
Steinach is a popular destination in the southern part of the Thuringian Forest. Just 7 km from the famous Rennsteig trail, the small town lies in an idyllic valley surrounded by the mountains of the Thuringian Slate Mountains. Those seeking relaxation and hikers will find excellent conditions here all year round in seemingly untouched nature. For sporty and active vacationers, Steinach has the largest alpine ski area in Thuringia, the Silbersattel ski arena, which is transformed into a bike park in summer. Guests can find variety and adventure all year round in the high ropes course, one of the centerpieces of the outdoor park. The park organizes a wide range of other adventure tours, such as mountain biking, snowshoe and trekking excursions, rock climbing, archery, off-road skating, cave excursions and rides on the conference bike, the Mountain Skyver.
Steinach is known as a slate town. It achieved world fame as the largest supplier of styluses. "Steinach pens are the best!" was written on the boxes in which around 30 billion of these slender writing instruments, made from the local slate, were sent all over the world. In the German Slate Museum, visitors can learn all about the 400-year history of stylus production. It is also interesting to visit the toy box, the slate pit and the traditional craft workshops. Steinach also invites you to celebrate. In addition to a varied range of club activities, there are regular events in the town's calendar. At the end of July, artists meet in Steinach's castle courtyard to create something new as part of the sculpture symposium. On the 3rd weekend in August, the Steinach fair attracts guests from near and far to the region's most attractive folk festival on the large market square. On the 2nd weekend in Advent, the Christmas and Griffelmarkt takes place on the market square in Steinach. A visit to Steinach is worthwhile at any time of year. You are very welcome!
