Stone Mill Valley
Stone Mill Valley
The mystical Steinmühlental valley with its bizarre rock formations lies between Netzkater, Rothesütte, Sülzhayn and Appenrode in the Südharz nature park. The valley owes its name to a sawmill and flour mill that was built here in the 18th century. A hike through the idyllic valley is possible from various starting points, and there is also stamp point no. 96 of the Harz hiking pin at a resting place by the stream. To the left and right of the path through the deeply incised valley, numerous fascinating rocks rise up, which have long fired people's imagination and have original names such as Owl's Head, Horse or Hercules. There are several legends surrounding this beautiful valley. An enchanted gold mine is said to be hidden here, from which an old woman once rewarded a young journeyman. A good starting point for a cycling or hiking tour through the Steinmühlental is, for example, the parking lot on Honigberg between Netzkater and Rothesütte directly on the B4.
