Lake Stotternheim is one of the most popular of Erfurt's lakes. The 22-hectare body of water with an average depth of 7 m is one of the recreational lakes that has already been completed. The lido to the west and the small bays are particularly popular in summer.

In addition to the recreational and entertainment factor, great importance has been attached to renaturation since the end of gravel extraction.
