The streetcar has characterized the cityscape of Nordhausen since 1900, but it is by no means antiquated. On the contrary, the "Nordhausen model" has been in use since May 2004. Combino Duo dual-system drive cars ensure a smooth transition from Nordhausen's streetcar network to the rail network of Harzer Schmalspurbahnen GmbH (HSB). While electric traction is possible on the streetcar line in the town of Nordhausen via overhead lines, diesel traction is used on the HSB railroad line.
