Straufhain
Straufhain
South of the Werra, surrounded by the Franconian Threshold, the Gleichberge and the characteristic Straufhain hill, lies the municipality of Straufhain, which consists of 9 districts. The administrative center is Streufdorf, which was first mentioned in a document in the year 800. Because of their favorable location, all villages were settled early on and have preserved many sights worth seeing from ancient times. Witnesses are: Strauf castle ruins, restored bower of the former fortification, beautiful half-timbered houses in Franconian style, versatile running fountains and old church buildings.
With the two-country museum "Rodachtal" the municipality has a gem for the preservation of the short-lived history of the last hundred years of the region. For the customs and celebrations revived in recent years, the old brewing and baking houses are used to the delight of our citizens and guests.
Those who set out to discover the history and tradition of this landscape quickly feel the hospitable and relaxing atmosphere.
Experience pure nature in the Hutelandschaft "Rodachtalaue"! Numerous bird species have their breeding grounds here, Heck cattle and Konik horses graze year-round on the terrain of the pond meadows and thus offer a unique biodiversity to many plant species and insects.
Numerous well-marked hiking trails open up the area to the visitor in a pleasant way. Many developed cycling and hiking trails around the individual districts of Adelhausen, Linden, Massenhausen, Eishausen, Seidingstadt, Sophiental, Steinfeld, Stressenhausen and Streufdorf invite you to hike, cycle and linger.
