Suhl, the largest city in southern Thuringia, the most natural city in Thuringia and the largest "state-approved resort" in Germany, is the economic and administrative center of the region. It owes its unique selling point as a "weapons town" to the traditional craftsmanship that has been practiced here for several centuries. In addition to the historic mining industry, there were many gunsmith and engraving companies. Today, the history of hunting and sporting weapon production is presented in the "Weapons Museum". In winter, ski enthusiasts can enjoy over 100 kilometers of groomed ski trails and cross-country ski tracks in Suhl and the surrounding area. With "Oh Tannenbaum" by Suhl native Dr. Ernst Anschütz, Suhl is on everyone's lips millions of times around the world every Christmas.
