The dam is located in the middle of the Thuringian Forest, between Lichte, Meura and Unterweißbach. It is surrounded by forest and offers everything from hiking and cycling to other sporting activities, mainly recreation and nature. Only bathing is not allowed for humans and animals!

It can be reached from several directions, from Unterweißbach, Meura and Lichte. It can also be reached by public transport from these towns: Meura 1 km, Lichte 4 km, Unterweißbach 400 m.
