The Rennsteig, the legendary ridgeway of the Thuringian Forest, forms the border of the district to the neighboring district over a distance of 16 km. Unique sights such as the Falkenstein climbing rock, the "Ebertswiese" mountain lake, two dams (the over 100-year-old Alte Tambacher Talsperre and the much larger Schmalwassertalsperre) and natural and architectural monuments characterize our landscape.
