The Heinrichshütte foundry in Wurzbach is surrounded by dense forests in the beautiful Sormitz valley. Once upon a time, the foundrymen were bustling with activity, sparks flew when the cupola furnace was tapped and clouds of smoke could be seen rising above the factory halls.

There were five hammer mills in the vicinity of Wurzbach, which later became smelting works. The Heinrichshütte foundry is the only one of the original ten that has remained in operation to this day. Since 1982, it has been a child-friendly technical museum and exhibition monument where you can not only marvel but also touch.

Visitors can enjoy unique insights into the original production history of the Heinrichshütte and experience the everyday life of a foundryman in the original foundry hall dating back to 1729 while watching a show casting or starting the most powerful steam engine in Europe (15,000 HP).
