The district of Thamsbrück is located 5.0 km from the spa town of Bad Langensalza. The village was incorporated on 01.01.1994 and today has 926 inhabitants (as at 31.12.2019). The renovated St. George's Church and the redesigned town center with market square, town hall and Ratskeller dominate the townscape.

Thamsbrück, first mentioned in a document in 736 and named as a town in 1206, is one of the oldest towns in Thuringia. However, the town wall around Thamsbrück was never fully completed. It had three gates (Steintor, Riethstor and Dammtor).
