Curtain up! For over 100 years, the Nordhausen Theater has been delighting audiences with a varied repertoire. Music is at the heart of the theater: the 50 or so musicians of the Loh Orchestra Sondershausen, which can look back on a history of more than four hundred years and is therefore one of the oldest orchestras in Germany, play with great passion. The traditional concert culture of Sondershausen and the theater in Nordhausen together create first-class musical theater with classical and modern operas, operettas, musicals, concerts and ballet. The ensemble not only performs in the theater in Nordhausen, but also in the castle and the House of Art in the residential town of Sondershausen and other cultural institutions in the region. The Young Theater not only brings music and theater for children and young people to the stage, but also invites young talents to try themselves out and stand as actors, singers or dancers on the boards that mean the world.A particular highlight is the Thuringian Sondershausen Castle Festival, which stages well-known musicals and operas against the impressive backdrop of Sondershausen Castle every year in June and July. The varied, annually changing program offers something for every taste and every generation: elaborately staged shows with top-class singing and orchestral music in the princely atmosphere of the castle in the evening.
