The office building is currently being renovated and is expected to be ready for use again in 2017. The exhibition "From the stone axe to the chainsaw", which was located in the forestry office until 2013, can currently be viewed on the upper floor of the hunting lodge.

It shows the development of technology in forestry. Here, the original saws are explained by text panels and historical photos. Each exhibited machine is provided with its most important technical data, which Wolfgang Langer, the initiator of the exhibition, has researched, in part quite painstakingly, from old operating manuals. The particularly interested visitor is thus enabled to compare and contrast special saw models on the basis of their technical parameters. Furthermore, the collection contains a wealth of forestry hand tools. In addition to the exhibition, Thüringenforst also offers forestry-related environmental education. The focus is always on the "tangible" experience of nature. The focus here is on guided tours and projects on the topic of "Experiencing the forest with all senses".
