Thuringian Open-Air Museum Hohenfelden - Museum grounds on the Eichenberg
Thuringian Open-Air Museum Hohenfelden - Museum grounds on the Eichenberg
In the south-eastern surroundings of Erfurt in the Weimarer Land region
More than 35 historical buildings from the 16th to 20th centuries have been collected from all parts of Thuringia and show how our ancestors used to build, live and work. The houses tell us about:
-
Life and culture of the time
-
Nutrition
-
Tools
-
Architecture
-
Differences in social status
A museum site with a wide range
The museum grounds are divided into two locations. In the village itself are the grounds of the vicarage with vicarage and outbuildings, as well as the one-class school, the brewery, the day laborer's house and other historic farms.
The museum grounds “Am Eichenberg” include, among other things:
-
a farmstead of wealthy farmers
-
a village smithy
-
a trestle windmill
-
a half-timbered house
-
a pottery
-
a meager community shepherd's house
-
Farm gardens and fields with historical plant and animal species
The „Am Eichenberg“ site continues to grow and is gradually being expanded to include further properties.
