Thuringian Museum Eisenach: Predigerkirche
Thuringian Museum Eisenach: Predigerkirche
In the 13th century, the Predigerkirche was built in honor of Saint Elizabeth as part of a Dominican monastery. In the 16th century, the monks' living and working quarters housed the Latin school and later the Martin Luther Grammar School.
The church has been part of the Thuringian Museum Eisenach for over 100 years. In its solemn rooms - especially in the old crypt - the largest collection of medieval carvings in Thuringia can be seen in a modern exhibition. Colorful figures of saints, altars, tombs, liturgical equipment and sculptures offer an insight into the world of faith and life of people in the Middle Ages.
