Tourist Information Bad Frankenhausen
The Bad Frankenhausen Tourist Information Office provides information on sights and interesting facts about the spa town and the Kyffhäuser. The staff are happy to advise guests on all excursion destinations and events as well as on finding suitable accommodation. The brine spa town of Bad Frankenhausen on the Kyffhäuser has a long tradition: the town has been recognized as a spa town since 1818 and has officially been able to call itself a "spa" for around 100 years. The salty Elisabeth spring rises deep in the Kyffhäuser mountains, the brine of which has been recognized as healing water and is used for treatment. Guests can also enjoy the healing powers of the brine in the Kyffhäuser Therme and in the Solewasser Vitalpark.Bad Frankenhausen is located in the middle of the Kyffhäuser Nature and Geopark. Hikers and cyclists will find an attractive network of trails here, such as the Kyffhäuser Trail, which has been awarded quality trail status, the barrier-free Salt Trail, the Kyffhäuser Cycle Trail and the Unstrut-Werra Cycle Trail: The 125-year-old imposing Kyffhäuser monument with Emperor Wilhelm I on horseback and Barbarossa carved in stone towers above the town. Legend has it that the legendary Emperor Redbeard sleeps deep in the Kyffhäuser - perhaps his underground castle is the Barbarossa Cave with its bizarre rock formations, dome-like vaults and shimmering blue-green lakes. In the Panorama Museum, visitors are immersed in the monumental circular painting of the German Peasants' War - the artist Werner Tübke has created a unique scene with more than 3,000 figures on a canvas 14 meters high and 123 meters in circumference. The tower of the Oberkirche is leaner than the famous Tower of Pisa - the 640-year-old church tower is a full 4.60 meters out of plumb due to the geologically unstable subsoil. The Bad Frankenhausen Regional Museum reveals more about the history of the town and the special flora, fauna and geology of the Kyffhäuser region. Visitors can experience how the valuable salt was extracted in the Middle Ages in the Schausiedehaus.
