Tourist Information Eisenach

Eisenach lies on the north-western edge of the Thuringian Forest in the middle of four valleys. The town's most famous landmark, the historic Wartburg Castle, is enthroned high up on the mountain above Eisenach. It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Eisenach is the birthplace of the world-famous composer Johann Sebastian Bach. The Bach House commemorates the life and work of the musician. Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German at Wartburg Castle. In the Luther House, one of the oldest preserved half-timbered houses in Eisenach, you can learn a lot about Luther's translation of the Bible and its significance for the German language.
