Schönbrunn drinking water reservoir
Schönbrunn drinking water reservoir
The small village is located on the southern edge of the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and offers ideal hiking conditions. The river Schleuse flows towards Schönbrunn through a narrow valley in the north. This is dammed at the western end of the village. The dam wall is 66 meters high. There are 23.8 billion liters of water behind it! With a daily withdrawal of approx. 27,000 m³ of water to supply the entire region, the dam could bridge a dry period of up to 2.5 years.
From the circular dam trail you have a fantastic view over the deep blue surface of the reservoir.
