Trumpet maker Weimann
Trumpet maker Weimann
"Works by hand are testimonies of the soul". - This quote from Alexander Weimann describes his profession and passion for the production of his WEIMANN® trumpets.
Since 2005, the manufactory for German trumpets and flugelhorns in Kapellendorf has been producing custom-made sounding suits by hand.
The manufactory
The Weimanns bought an old farmhouse in this small town in the Weimarer Land region and spent years renovating it. This listed gem is exactly the right environment for the manufactory. The workshop is located on the first floor, where Alexander Weimann and his team bend, hammer and punch out all the lead bells in the traditional way. All leadpipes are made from one piece in the old Viennese tradition and pressed on by hand.
There are also offices and a showroom with red velvet and shelves full of shiny, flashing instruments. In the rehearsal room, interested parties can test the instruments extensively, of course always with the friendly and competent advice of the boss himself.
The master
Alexander Weimann had a long way to go to reach this level of expertise: he grew up in an extraordinarily musical environment. His late father was a vocal soloist at the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, his sister is a bassoonist and his brother an organ builder. He himself received French horn lessons from a musician in the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. In 1984, he began his apprenticeship as an instrument maker with the esteemed master craftsman Friedbert Syhre in Leipzig. Alexander Weimann then attended the master craftsman's school and went on to study restoration of old instruments. He then worked for two years as a musical instrument maker in Switzerland. He has been a self-employed instrument maker in the Weimarer Land region since 1994.
The instruments
The master's instruments are unique, recognizable by the red screw that binds the water key - forged by hand - to the metal. The unique trumpets and horns, which are tailor-made for the musicians, make the hearts of national and international clients beat faster. Musicians in orchestras as well as solo artists on almost every continent appreciate this quality made in Thuringia.
